An industrial compressor may operate for thousands of hours each year. Electricity, planned maintenance, consumables and production risk accumulate over the machine life. Compare proposals on the same airflow, pressure, duty and scope before focusing on price.
Estimate energy from the real operating profile
Use motor power, loaded percentage, operating hours and tariff to build a first estimate. Then consider unloaded consumption, pressure set point and demand variability. VSD may reduce cost where demand varies, but a stable base load may favour another arrangement.
Confirm what the quotation includes
Check whether the price includes receiver, dryer, filters, drains, electrical work, delivery, rigging, commissioning and operator training. A compressor-only quotation is not directly comparable with a turnkey package. Also confirm warranty conditions and required service intervals.
Price the maintenance plan and parts availability
Ask for service-kit contents, oil type, interval assumptions, labour rates and travel charges. Verify local stock of filters, separators, controllers and critical components. An unfamiliar machine with no local spares can create extended downtime.
Value reliability and redundancy
Where production stops without air, downtime has a measurable cost. A slightly more expensive arrangement with standby capacity, isolation valves and planned service support can protect revenue. Include the consequence of failure in the buying decision.
