The 5 000 litre air receiver tank (5000 litre air receiver) is the largest standard size in our range — engineered for the most demanding industrial compressed air systems in South Africa. It is specified for 110 kW to 160 kW rotary screw compressors, large multi-compressor stations and industrial facilities with very high or highly variable air demand including mining operations, paper mills, cement plants, power generation facilities and large automotive OEM plants.
A 5 000 litre receiver provides exceptional system buffer capacity. In large industrial systems with multiple compressors, the 5 000 litre vessel acts as the main system header — equalising pressure across the network, reducing compressor load fluctuation and providing reserve capacity during compressor maintenance or changeover periods.
The 5 000 litre unit is supplied horizontal with heavy structural saddle legs, designed for concrete pad mounting. Standard connections are 3" BSP or DN80 flanged depending on specification. Supply includes SANS 347 pressure test certificate, full-bore safety relief valve with discharge piping provisions, 150 mm dial pressure gauge (or digital transmitter on request), full-bore drain valve and all access nozzles.
Man-entry manway (minimum 400 mm diameter) is standard on all 5 000 litre units, allowing internal inspection without vessel removal. Radiographic weld testing, ultrasonic thickness inspection and third-party inspection (Lloyd's, SGS, Bureau Veritas) are available on request for regulated or insurance-mandated installations.
Custom specifications — including higher working pressure (up to 16 bar), special material grades, epoxy internal lining, stainless steel construction and larger volumes — are available on application.
Factory-set SANS-compliant pressure safety valve. Prevents over-pressurisation. Set to working pressure ± tolerance.
Glycerin-filled dial pressure gauge (100 mm or 150 mm depending on size). Digital transmitter available on request.
Manual full-bore drain valve for condensate removal. Automatic timed or zero-loss drain available as upgrade.
Pressure test certificate and SANS 347 compliance documentation supplied with every unit.
Internal shot-blasted and primed to minimise corrosion. Epoxy internal lining available on request.
3" BSP or DN80 flanged inlet/outlet standard. Additional nozzles for gauge, safety valve and drain included.
Man-entry or access inspection port standard on 5,000 litre and above. Required for in-service internal inspection.
External industrial enamel paint finish. Weatherproof external coating available for outdoor installations.
Heavy-duty saddle-mounted structural steel legs. Designed for concrete pad mounting.
Large mining operations, heavy processing plants, paper mills, cement plants, large automotive OEM, power generation support, large cold chain
Adequate storage volume means your compressor runs fewer start-stop cycles — reducing motor wear, starter contactor wear and heat stress on the air-end. Screw compressors running in load/unload mode benefit greatly from correct receiver sizing.
A receiver acts as a pressure buffer — absorbing demand spikes without immediate pressure drop. Critical for spray painting, pneumatic controls and precision tooling where pressure variation causes quality problems.
Short-term demand spikes (impact wrenches, multiple guns firing simultaneously, large valve actuations) can be met from the receiver without the compressor struggling to keep up — provided the receiver is correctly sized.
As a general guide: Receiver volume (litres) = FAD (L/min) × 6 to 10. The 5000 litre receiver is suited for compressors with FAD up to approximately up to 35.0 m³/min.

Pair your air receiver with a Trycomp screw compressor, refrigeration dryer and filtration, or browse our full air receiver range.
A 5 000 litre receiver is paired with 110–160 kW rotary screw compressors, or used as the central header vessel in multi-compressor compressed air stations with combined output above 20 m³/min.
Yes — all pressure vessels above 50 litres operating above atmospheric pressure are subject to SANS 347 in South Africa. Our vessels are supplied with a pressure test certificate. Regular in-service inspection is required by OHS regulations.
Yes — receivers rated for 13 bar or 16 bar working pressure are available on special order. Specify required working pressure, design pressure and safety valve set point when enquiring.
5 000 litre receivers are transported by flatbed truck and require a crane or forklift for offloading and positioning. We can advise on transport and rigging requirements for your site.
